Case study Tanglewood House, Walton, Yorkshire

Overview

A bespoke set of hardwood gates designed, manufactured and installed for Mrs. Walker in Walton, Yorkshire, creating a strong, traditional and beautiful gate set.

The Brief

The client came to us looking for a set of gates that couldn’t be bought online — something with real presence, built properly, and in keeping with the character of the property, with the option to incorporate automation at a later date.

Our Approach

We developed a design based on a traditional lodge-style hardwood driveway gate, incorporating a boarded and cleated lower section to provide both privacy and a stronger visual presence.

  • Sykes Timber Prime grade Iroko, selected for durability and long-term stability
  • Interlocked gothic arch detailing paired with a cleated boarded lower section
  • Traditional mortice and tenon construction, reinforced with draw dowelling throughout
  • Sikkens HLS / Filter 7, 3-coat system finish for long-term protection

The Build

From careful selection of the finest timber to in-house manufacture by our joinery team, every element was executed with precision. Clean, tight-fitting joints and consistent detailing throughout ensure long-term strength, stability, and a refined finish.

Installation

  • Gates carefully aligned and balanced
  • Hinges adjusted for smooth, consistent operation

The Result

A well-proportioned set of lodge gates that defines the entrance, provides privacy and security, and will continue to perform for decades.

Why it Matters

When a client says they don’t want something that can be bought online, what they’re really asking for is quality, proportion, and longevity. This project delivers exactly that.
